The Door WIthin

This is the first book in a trilogy, and it's pretty good, but it does have a religious undertone to it, that in some places can be a little hard to get past. It's about Aidan, an average teenager who's family has recently moved to help care for his ailing grandfather. In the basement of his new house, ancient scrolls appear to him and take him to the land of The Realm, where he trains to be a knight and to help win a war. Now this is the part I had a bit of a problem with. Aidan gets the city of Alleble and is trained to be a knight in a week, and while I'm sure in a week he could learn a few things that might help save his life, I doubt there is any way he could gain enough knowledge and skill to seriously "change" him.
BUT that aside, he goes with his companions of 12 knights to try and help recruit an independent city to their side. Along the way he faces betrayal, friendship, fear, loss and more. Now this is the part of the story I like because it show how the things that happen to him are what change him for the better. He is courageous in the face of his fears, and it shows that anyone can be brave no matter the circumstances. If you can get past the religious undertones, this is a very well written story.

Princess Nevermore

K so this is a smaller, easy read but it is pretty good. It's about a princess from an underground world that comes into our world through "the wishing pool". On her visit here she has to deal with learning new things, her world is almost a Renaissance time frame, and so she is pretty confused in this modern, technologically advanced world. She has to deal with relationships and choices and obligations. I love how impulsive she is made to be, because as a 16 year old that is how it would be. But through out the story you see how she grows and starts to realize how a small choice can have a huge affect on not only her, but others. So yeah if you want something that deals with life, choices, relationships, and a little bit of magic, this is a good book for you!
