The Subtle Knife Pt 1

So I'm more than half way through this and even though it is by no means as action packed (so far) as the first book, I would have to say that I'm enjoying more than the first one. You become even more emotionally involved with the characters and Will and Lyra have such a strange yet perfect relationship. The idea of children are different from adults is continued in this book by the presence of Specters that only attack those who can see them (adults).
The way that the author has connected the worlds, and the fact that in multiple worlds people are researching Dust, though it's called different things in the different worlds, is all very well done! Again, in this book, the children show more courage and cunning then I have ever seen in real life, but it simply adds to the story. I also like the fact that the author shows that the kids are scared but they go through with what they have to and it usually comes out to their advantage. :) Will hopefully be finished with it tonight or tomorrow.

The Golden Compass finished

So I finished The Golden Compass and as always (or almost always) the book kicked the movie in the butt! The ending of this book was so much better and more emotional than the movie was, and of course so much was left out. All I can say is that if more people in real life had the courage and determination that Lyra has, this world would be a better place. She is a brave, strong, moral, albeit head strong girl who only wants to be happy and protect those she loves. She relies on her on brain to get out of out water, deals with trials and betrayal better than anyone I have ever known, and has an imagination could go to the moon and back several times. Even though this book isn't "new" she is one of the most interesting heroes that I have come across in quite a long time! On to book 2 The Subtle Knife

The Golden Compass

So I have decided that I am going to start a blog about the books I read starting with my new book series, His Dark Materials Book 1 The Golden Compass. So far I am loving this book. I am already into part 3 of it, and at points I find I have to push myself through it as it becomes bland and slow. But I have noticed that even at the slow parts I find myself plowing on because I am so curious as to what will happen, and even at the not so exciting parts I realize that it is exactly how it would happen in real life, were it to be real. It tells about how they prepare for a trip (the exciting part) and how Lyra lives her everyday life. I found that the gyptian are absolutely charming, and that Mrs. Coulter is even more horrid in the book than she is in the movie. I find the idea of daemons fascinating and could only imagine what it would be like to be so closely connected with another being to be able to feel what they feel, the way they feel it. I'll write more when I've finished the book. I am glad that there are 2 more books to come!
