The Golden Compass

So I have decided that I am going to start a blog about the books I read starting with my new book series, His Dark Materials Book 1 The Golden Compass. So far I am loving this book. I am already into part 3 of it, and at points I find I have to push myself through it as it becomes bland and slow. But I have noticed that even at the slow parts I find myself plowing on because I am so curious as to what will happen, and even at the not so exciting parts I realize that it is exactly how it would happen in real life, were it to be real. It tells about how they prepare for a trip (the exciting part) and how Lyra lives her everyday life. I found that the gyptian are absolutely charming, and that Mrs. Coulter is even more horrid in the book than she is in the movie. I find the idea of daemons fascinating and could only imagine what it would be like to be so closely connected with another being to be able to feel what they feel, the way they feel it. I'll write more when I've finished the book. I am glad that there are 2 more books to come!

  1. I read the Golden Compass in middle school and absolutely loved it! I wasn't able to read the other two until just a few years ago, but those were great too! Since I read all the books, I decided not to see the movie at all. Too many people said that it was a letdown to the books (as so many movies are) but it looks like you did it the smart way and watched the movie THEN read the book!

  2. Well truthfully when I saw the movie I had no idea it was a book. But I liked the movie so I figured the books had to be pretty good. Now that I've read the first book, like you said the movie is a let down, but still a good movie if you take it as just a movie, not a movie-from-a-book. :)
